Elysia Borowy, former Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit from 2013 to 2021, is a visionary leader known for redefining cultural institutions. With a rich background in senior roles at institutions like the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, she has organized donor art trips worldwide and served on prestigious panels. A prolific fundraiser, Borowy has led campaigns, securing multi-million-dollar grants and building extensive patron networks. Her achievements include a $15M capital campaign, a $17M private donation, and successful grant awards totaling $26M. Notably, she spearheaded initiatives like the Ford Curatorial Fellowship for Diversity and secured grants from the Mellon Foundation and Knight Foundation. At MOCAD, she orchestrated a $15M capital campaign, raising $7M, doubling the operating budget, and eliminating debt. Borowy's impact extends to groundbreaking exhibitions reviewed by prominent publications. Past projects include solo shows devoted to artists including KAWS, Arthur Jafa, Sadie Laska, Richard Prince, Dara Friedman, and Sanford Biggers.
